How did God create evil if he has nothing of evil in him?Why would you create evil if you are good?
Q. Isaiah 47:7 7I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. If God cannot do evil how did he create evil? If God is pure and good why create evil? Why create evil? Can't we all live in free will in paradise or heaven then why create evil?
Asked by Albert V - Fri Jan 2 00:05:31 2009 - - 8 Answers - 1 Comments
A. God created persons (both spirit and human) with the quality of free will. Many have misused that quality of freedom of choice and brought evil into existence. It can be illustrated like this: A father and mother work hard to raise their children in the best way possible--instilling morals and ethics into them. Most of the children turn out well but one of them becomes a criminal--doing evil things (thievery, murder, etc). Did the parents create this criminal? No, the child made his own choices and chose this life course for himself. He made himself a criminal, despite his parents best efforts to raise him as a good person.

Q. Does evil even exist and, if so, what determines that an act or thought is evil? Is there something about evil that is common to all cultures? Do you think evil exists absent humanity's involvement?

A. Evil is the desire to destroy, or damage; and the destruction that results. Particularly the desire to destroy other human beings, but also the desire to damage animals, anything beautiful or well-made or health-giving. It includes physical violence, but also the emotional or psychological destruction of another human being, the desire to damage any aspect of a personality, or their functioning healthily in their family or community. This is what lies behind a great deal of greed and ambition; it's about acquiring what others naturally need; it's as much about someone else NOT having it as it is about having it yourself. What is the darkest representation of evil?
Q. To me, I think of evil as something shadowy and spiritual that is best and briefly described in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea Cycle, Garth Nix's Abhorsen trilogy, and other fictional books. We are familar with the darkest times of the 20th century (World War II) and the recent times of the early 21 century (the so-called-war on terrorism) but what about the essence of it? What is the most feared or representative of evil? Frankly, I can only think of spiritual beings rendered as dark shadows that consume and cast everything into the nothingness. First would come corruption, destruction, and then the void. That is how I see evil but I am sure many people have better ideas.

A. Okay, so far, none of the answers really helped. Here's what you do. 1.Take the Strength Bobblehead from the Sheriff's house in Megaton. 2.Blow up Megaton. 3.Kill the ghouls for Tenpenny, at Tenpenny Tower, for Tenpenny Tower quest. 4.Steal anything you want. 5.Go to Paradise Falls and help the slavers. (They also give you free stuff if you are really evil). 6.Get the Contract Killer perk. 7.You're probably too evil to get of the best partners in the whole game now, her name is Fawkes, and she's a gatling lazer wielding, talking super mutant. No lies.

When a man does evil things, is everything good he does completely ignored?
Q. I do not care if good an evil are subjective. I actually care for real answers, so don't bother with that.
Asked by Joe Schulz? - Sat Feb 21 07:01:44 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's not so much a question of subjectivity as of degree. It really depends on the degree of the evil. By all accounts, Hitler was kind to children and animals; but I don't think you're going to see many humanitarian biographies of him. John F. Kennedy was a notorious womanizer who disregarded his marriage vows and treated woman like sex-objects; but history tends to overlook that fact in favor of other factors. I could go on; but I think you get my point. It really does depend on the extent of the good vs the evil.

What in your opinion makes a person evil?
Q. I have my own but I'd like to know yours. Evil is a force that exists within all of us. A person who cannot distinguish between right and wrong is not evil. It is not their fault. True Evil knows the difference but chooses the option that causes the most damage. Give Evil a choice between shooting three people and breaking a person's will and the will choose the latter. It causes the most harm. Evil knows the boundaries and ignores them anyway.

A. Yes, evil does exist in all of us. That is why we need a Saviour. We can never overcome it on our own or through our own efforts, no matter how hard we may try. Evil is supernatural and needs a supernatural opponent to battle it. We are out of it's league. I think when people continually act with no regard for how those actions will affect others and zero concern if they are aware, you have confronted evil. It's about ME ME ME...or these days A*ME*RICA. Woe to those who call good evil and evil good! We see this in nearly every single aspect of American life anymore. As Billy Graham once said, "The new morality is the old fashioned immorality" We just keep spiraling downward.

Why are evil people and beings always depicted as ugly or disfigured?
Q. In literature and mythology the evil ones are always depicted as ugly and the heroes are beautiful or at least average. In reality isn't it the people who consider themselves superior the ones who really commit the most evil?
Asked by havockwreacker - Thu Jul 23 22:06:24 2009 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments
A. You are absolutely correct. Physical appearance has nothing to do with the spiritual life within a body. Evil comes from a false sense of being separate from others and God. Hollywood and mass media glorify selfishness while pocketing huge sums of money selling marginally effective drugs, cosmetics, unhealthy foods, and the American dream. It's only a dream.

A demented character might say things that don't make sense, talk in circles or only in questions, and would look around as though it sees things others don't. A creepy literary device is to have the character in question show up in strange places with weak excuses. The mere coincidence gives heebie-jeebies to the reader. How do you handle creating vile and evil characters in your story?
Q. I believe that when writing fiction, if you create a character that is so vile that there is no reason to like that person, you need to make the reader care about that person more and add some dimension to the character, or you risk creating one dimensional characters. You do something to make the reader feel some empathy for him. A murderer, for example is easy to despise, but you'll maybe feel bad when he is either jailed or killed because he leaves an adorable child behind who loves his daddy and does not how evil he is. And, he also leaves behind a wife who is unable to care for this child and pay the rent, etc. How do you make the reader connect with the evil ones in your stories so that they are not one dimensional beings which can… [cont.]

A. I hate one-dimensional characters - but one-dimensional villains are the worst. Nobody rolls out of bed in the morning and decides to wreak havoc in the world just for the fun of it. (Okay, maybe they do in James Bond movies, but that's a special case.) I think the best way to handle villains is to forget they are the villain. Treat them as you would any other character - as someone who has a motivation for doing what they're doing. They're either a psychopath who believes the bad stuff they're doing is completely right and moral - or they're someone deeply conflicted about the path they can't seem to get off of.

What triggered the cultural notion of "clubbing baby seals" as the epitome of most evil things one could do?
Q. I've noticed the term "clubbing baby seals" has been being used fairly frequently in several forms of media as a way of describing something that's unforgivably evil to the highest degree. It's always used to mention something that's pretty much as bad as you can get. I know that clubbing baby seals "is" evil, but I was wondering. What exactly started the trend that makes it the go-to evil term?

A. "Baby" seals haven't legally been taken since 1987 and prior to that they were only taken because Europe wanted the white pelts. I'm a Newfoundlander my ancestors hunted and sold seal pelts to supplement their income in the Spring. When you live on an Island in the Atlantic ocean and you need to feed your family and provide income and you make your living off the land seals are a valuable resource. This is why the animals have been commercially hunted for hundreds of years. Seal meat is rich in protien, Omega 3 and 6 and provided a warm hearty meal in the colder months. The meat is consumed to this day. I much prefer a nice seal pie to chicken that has never seen daylight. Seal pelts are soft, water proof, and durable. They can… [cont.]

If Paris Hilton was the evil dictator in a foreign country threatening the USA, would we survive an attack?
Q. She has ALOT of money and knows alot of people to get on her side and would have support from other dictators and can buy nuclear weapons just as if she was shopping for clothes. Would the USA be able to win a war ran by Paris Hilton as an evil dictator with endless money and financial support from other evil nations? LoL, just wondering what would happen if something like that would ever occur, interested to see your answers! Thank You!

What is a plot event in Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde that represents the good and evil present in humans?
Q. I need to find a plot event that shows both the good and evil in people, not just one or the other. Thanks!

A. I believe you're missing the obvious here. The idea that taking a potion can separate the good and evil in man is the primary plot device of the story. It is not the Doctor's goal, but it is the device of the author. Ultimately, the author seems to be saying that even the good in man cannot exist without the evil since they both die.
